A disused church has been devastated following a huge fire last night.
Emergency services were called to the blaze at Old and St Luke’s Church in Dundee’s Lochee area shortly after 9pm.
At its height more than 30 firefighters were battling the flames.
As a precaution, residents at a nearby block of flats were evacuated and moved to safety.
There were no reports of any injuries.
Fire crews were back at the scene this morning to check for hotspots and carry out dampening down work.
A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “A joint investigation between the SFRS and Police Scotland into the cause of the fire will be carried out in due course.”
Lochee councillor Charlie Malone told Wave 102 News the area was now in danger of losing a famous landmark.
He said: “This is such an iconic building, such an iconic part of Dundee’s and Lochee’s heritage.
“We are very busy at the moment working with the local community looking to see how we can regenerate Lochee High Street and bring it back to something that people want to visit.
“We had plans for this particular property to see if we could turn into a community centre or something like that.
“To watch it go up last night was pretty devastating.”
